Episode 11 — Algebraic Expressions

Factorising Trinomials

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the factors of x squared in an algebraic expression. • Factorize a trinomial by identifying and using the correct combination of factors for the constant term. • Explain why a negative sign is required in one of the brackets when factorizing a trinomial with a negative middle term. • Apply the knowledge to factorize the given example, x squared minus x minus 12. • Describe the process of factorizing a trinomial and identify the correct signs for each bracket.
