Equations and Inequalities Example 1 Solving Quadratic Equations

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the need to have one side of the equation equal to zero when solving a quadratic equation by factorisation. • Subtract 5x from either side of an equation to set it up for factorisation. • Factor out x as a common factor from both terms in a quadratic expression. • Recognise that dividing by x is not allowed if x may be equal to zero. • Solve a quadratic equation by factoring, resulting in two possible values for the variable.
