Simplification of Expressions with Exponents

Learners will be able to:

• Simplify expressions using exponent laws by changing the bases of all exponents to prime numbers. • Identify and apply the rule that x to the power of a, all raised to the power of b, equals x to the power of (a × b). • Remove brackets in an expression with exponents by multiplying the exponents. • Rewrite terms in the denominator as terms in the numerator with exponents of opposite signs using the rule 1 over x to the power of b equals x to the power of (-b). • Factorise expressions and calculate the value of any term raised to the power of zero.
