Midpoint Theorem

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the midpoint theorem in a triangle. • Explain that if a line joins the midpoints of two sides of a triangle, this line is parallel to the third side and equal to half its length. • Prove that DE is parallel to BC and half the length of BC using congruent triangles AED and FEC. • Identify the converse of the midpoint theorem as: if a line is drawn from the midpoint of one side of a triangle parallel to a second side, it bisects the third side and is equal to half of the parallel side. • Apply the midpoint theorem to solve problems involving midpoints in triangles.
