Episode 12 — Inverse Graphs

Quadratic Functions

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the parent function of quadratic functions as y = x^2. • Describe the two forms that a quadratic function can be given in: y = ax^2 + bx + c and y = a(x + p)^2 + q. • Explain how the value of 'a' affects the graph of a parabola, including determining whether it has a maximum or minimum turning point. • Solve the quadratic equation ax^2 + bx + c = 0 to find the x-intercepts of a parabola. • Apply the quadratic formula to solve for x: x = -b ± √(b^2 - 4ac) / 2a. • Interpret the values of 'p' and 'q' in the form y = a(x + p)^2 + q, including identifying the x-value and y-value of the turning point.
