Learners will be able to:

• Recall the formula for finding the average gradient between two points on a curve. • Calculate the difference quotient using the formula f of x plus h minus f of x all over h. • Identify the limit as h tends to 0 in the context of differentiation from first principles. • Apply the formula for differentiation from first principles, f prime x equals the limit as h tends to 0 of f of x plus h minus f of x all over h. • Solve problems using differentiation from first principles to find the gradient function and determine the gradient at a specific point.
