Organic Molecules Classification of Alcohols

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the carbon that the hydroxyl group is attached to in an alcohol molecule. • Classify an alcohol as primary, secondary, or tertiary based on the number of other carbons attached to the carbon with the hydroxyl group. • Distinguish between primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols using their structural characteristics. • Apply the same principle to classify halogen-substituted alkanes as primary, secondary, or tertiary. • Identify the carbon that the halogen is attached to in a halogen-substituted alkane molecule.
