Episode 6 — Matter & Materials - Organic Molecules and Properties
Organic Molecules Classifying Organic Compounds
Learners will be able to:
• Identify the homologous series of alkanes and describe their general formula. • Explain how the presence of a carbon-carbon double bond in an alkane results in it becoming an alkene. • Describe the functional group for alcohols and explain its significance in determining the properties of organic compounds. • Identify the functional groups for carboxylic acids, ketones, and aldehydes and describe their roles in determining the physical and chemical properties of these compounds. • Classify a compound as an alkane, alkene, alcohol, or carboxylic acid based on its structure.
