Learners will be able to:

• Identify the different numbering systems used in naming organic compounds. • Apply the correct numbering system to indicate the positions of functional groups and substituents on a carbon chain. • Determine the correct prefix to use when indicating the presence of two or more of the same functional group or substituent. • Assign numerical numbers to indicate the positions of functional groups and substituents on the main carbon chain. • Construct the correct name for an organic compound using the IUPAC naming convention, including the use of di-, tri-, and tetra- prefixes.
