• Identify the root word of an organic compound and break it down into prefix and suffix. • Explain how the prefix gives an indication of the number of carbon atoms in the main chain. • Describe the meaning of different suffixes (ene, ein, ole, own, al) in relation to functional groups. • Apply the IUPAC naming convention to name organic compounds with specified functional groups. • Determine the position of a functional group on a carbon chain and assign numbers accordingly.
