Addition Reactions

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the conditions necessary for an addition reaction to occur in organic chemistry. • Explain how a double or triple bond breaks during an addition reaction and atoms add onto carbon atoms on either side. • Describe the difference between saturated and unsaturated compounds and identify reactants and products in an addition reaction. • Apply Markovnikov's rule to determine the major product in hydrohalogenation reactions. • Identify the types of addition reactions, including hydrogenation, halogenation, hydrohalogenation, and hydration.
