Episode 8 — Mechanics - Work, Energy and Power

Work

Learners will be able to:

• Define work in terms of physics as the product of force and displacement in the direction of the force. • Calculate the work done by a force on an object using the formula W = F cos θ × δx, where F is the magnitude of the force, δx is the magnitude of the displacement, and θ is the angle between the force and displacement. • Identify when no work is done on an object, such as when the force is perpendicular to the displacement or when the object remains stationary. • Determine whether work done by a force is positive or negative based on the direction of the force relative to the displacement. • Apply the concept of work to solve problems involving forces and displacements in different directions.
