Episode 6 — Chemical Industries

Acid - Base Neutralisations

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the principle by which acids and bases work in chemical industries. • Explain how hydrogen ions (protons) are transferred from an acid to a base during a neutralisation reaction. • Describe the products formed during a neutralisation reaction between acids and bases, including salts and water. • Apply knowledge of strong and weak acids and bases to predict the pH of salts formed in neutralisation reactions. • Interpret the importance of understanding acids and bases in chemical industries, particularly in relation to soil pH and fertiliser use.
