Learners will be able to:

• Identify the internal resistance of a battery as a series resistor that affects the total EMF available in a circuit. • Explain how internal resistance is related to the external potential difference and the current flowing through the battery. • Calculate the internal potential difference (lost volts) using the equation EMF = external potential difference + internal potential difference. • Apply Ohm's Law to calculate the internal resistance of a battery given the EMF, external resistance, and current. • Determine the voltage across different components in a series circuit when considering internal resistance.
