Half Reactions

Learners will be able to:

• Identify oxidation and reduction reactions based on the gain or loss of electrons. • Determine if electrons are gained or lost by examining the reactants and products in a reaction equation. • Balance half reactions by ensuring that atoms and charges are balanced. • Calculate the lowest common multiple (LCM) of electron numbers in two half reactions to balance them. • Multiply both half reactions by the LCM to ensure equal electron numbers on each side.
