Examples of Bases
Learners will be able to:
• Identify common basic household substances (e.g. toothpaste, soap, baking soda, bleach, washing powder, ammonia) and distinguish between weak and strong bases based on their hydroxide ion concentration • Explain why certain strong bases (e.g. bleach, ammonia, washing powder) are dangerous and must be handled carefully, and identify calcium carbonate as a common natural base (e.g. eggshells, coral, limestone)
