• Explain why taste and touch are unreliable and unsafe ways to identify an unknown substance as an acid or base, and describe litmus as a safe alternative (an acid-base indicator) • Predict and explain the colour changes of red and blue litmus paper when tested in acidic, basic and neutral substances
