Heating as a Transfer of Energy

Learners will be able to:

• Define heating as the transfer of energy from a hotter object or substance to a cooler one • Distinguish between temperature and heat, and identify the units used to measure each • Explain that heat energy transfer continues until two objects reach the same temperature (equilibrium) • Identify the hotter and cooler object in a given example and predict the direction of heat energy flow • Explain how heating affects the temperature of objects and how heat energy can be dissipated to the environment • Relate heat energy transfer to changes in the state of matter
