Chemical Potential Energy

Learners will be able to:

• Define chemical potential energy and identify fuel, wood, food and batteries as examples. • Explain that food is the body's source of chemical potential energy. • State that energy is measured in joules (kilojoules) and interpret this unit on food labels. • Calculate the total energy content of food using information on food packaging (kilojoules per serving x number of servings). • Compare the amount of chemical potential energy in different types of food (e.g. carbohydrates versus proteins).
