Non-renewable Energy Sources

Learners will be able to:

• Define non-renewable energy sources as those with a limited supply that cannot be replaced or recycled. • Identify examples of non-renewable energy sources, including coal, oil, natural gas and uranium. • Explain how fossil fuels form over millions of years under pressure. • Describe how crude oil, coal and natural gas are used in everyday life (e.g. fuel, electricity generation, heating). • Explain how nuclear energy is released by splitting atomic particles apart. • Compare fossil fuels and nuclear fuel as non-renewable sources in terms of pollution and how long supplies last.
