The Greenhouse Effect

Learners will be able to:

• Describe how a greenhouse traps heat and use this to explain the natural greenhouse effect. • Explain the role of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, in keeping the Earth's atmosphere warm. • Distinguish between the natural greenhouse effect and the enhanced greenhouse effect. • Explain how burning fossil fuels increases the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. • Describe global warming and give examples of its effects on climate (e.g. melting ice, rising sea levels, extreme weather).
